Working on a project led by environmental engineering professor Tryg Lundquist and College of Engineering lab manager Sara Leader, a multi-disciplinary group of students are studying one of algae’s remarkable features — the ability to remove impurities from wastewater. Here, Evelyn Bengel (biology) works in one of Cal Poly’s three algae labs on the “Phos Project,” which studies how algae treats wastewater by removing the phosphorus.
