Mechanical engineering senior and shop tech Nate Greco tests the caulking he just applied to a newly refinished worktable in the Hangar machine shop. The project to rebuild and refinish tabletops for 10 worktables, used by clubs and students, has been a challenging process, according to summer lead tech Mark Dahmen, also a mechanical engineering student. The 60-plus-year-old tabletops, which were discovered to have lead-based paint during the stripping process, have been meticulously restored by 13 shop techs over the summer. With five tables completed, the refurbished workspaces will be ready for students and their projects by the start of fall quarter.
