EPIC counselor and mechanical engineering student Madeline Slater places her hands on a Van de Graaff generator while high school students participating in the weeklong camp attempt to feel the electric charge. The Van de Graaff generator uses a moving belt to accumulate electric charge on a hollow metal sphere, producing high voltage at low current levels. Engineering Possibilities in College (EPIC) is one of the college’s outreach programs, offering high school students a glimpse into engineering programs and campus life.
