Lending a Hand

Joshua Whitaker, in his final year of biomedical engineering, showcases a robotic arm developed with his classmate, Maggie Collier, for their senior project. Unveiled at the Biomedical Engineering Project Expo on March 21, the prosthetic limb includes a specially designed hand mechanism that significantly improves grip in activities requiring light, two-handed coordination for individuals with transradial amputations. Whitaker reveals the arm’s innovative features by demonstrating how its motors seamlessly respond to muscle contractions, offering a glimpse into the future of prosthetic technology.
