Two students
Mechanical engineering students Ryan Dubois and Sophie Getty take measurements from solar panels outside the solar lab as part of the Summer Undergraduate Research Program (SURP). The students, who are being mentored by Assistant Professor Jacques Belanger, are learning how to optimize energy production at the solar field on the Cal Poly campus. SURP is an 8-week program that pairs newer students with faculty mentors and industry sponsors to gain research experience on relevant, real-world projects.

Abstracts for the 2022 Summer Undergraduate Research Program have been posted. Over the summer, SURP students and faculty will work collaboratively on cutting-edge research to solve critical issues facing the world today.

The research abstracts posted touch on some of our biggest challenges and greatest needs, from using AI to locate a missing person to optimizing the field energy generation.
