Summer Undergraduate Research Program (SURP) Continues This Summer

SURP award winners with Prof Bob Crockett

Hello Cal Poly Students!

I hope that you all are staying well, staying safe, and adapting as best as you can to what is a challenging situation for all of us. I wanted to relay the great news that the College of Engineering Summer Undergraduate Research Program (SURP) will continue this summer. Dean Fleischer views SURP as a critical program, so we have asked our faculty to rescope their projects to allow them to be completed entirely remotely. While this is a change from our original plan, it may offer an opportunity to some students who would not otherwise be able to participate. We are really excited by the faculty proposals, and feel strongly that SURP will provide you with an outstanding undergraduate research experience, even if it does not occur on the Cal Poly campus this year. SURP is an 8-week program where students perform research directly with faculty, and receive a $3000 stipend. Visit here for more details.

Applications will be submitted via MustangJobs beginning April 20, with final selections during the week of May 4. Please keep your eye out for another email with instructions in the coming weeks. Cal Poly faculty and staff genuinely appreciate your flexibility during these unprecedented times, and the fact that we can continue with our Summer Undergraduate Research Program is a testament to everyone’s resiliency and can-do spirit.

Best,

Bob Crockett
