Annual SURP+ Symposium Returns to Cal Poly

A contraption on wheels, a Cal Poly student's SURP project

The annual SURP+ Symposium will be back for another year! The event will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 10.

Faculty, staff and students are invited to learn about student research at Cal Poly by engaging with over 150 research and creative activity projects completed in summer 2025 as part of Cal Poly’s Summer Undergraduate Research Program (SURP).

The event will be held in the Engineering Plaza, between the ATL, Bonderson and Building 192.

Student poster presenters worked alongside faculty, staff and community partners throughout the summer, resulting in co-authored publications and university, industry and community collaborations.

Students will present their research findings during the event that is jointly organized by the Bailey College of Science & Mathematics, the College of Agriculture, Food & Environmental Sciences, the College of Engineering, the College of Liberal Arts, the Orfalea College of Business and the Office of Student Research in collaboration with the California Central Coast Community College Collaborative (C6) (previously funded by the NSF).

At least 25 community college researchers — from C6 campuses including: Allan Hancock College, Cabrillo College, Cuesta College, Monterey Peninsula College, Moorpark College, Oxnard College, Santa Barbara City College and Ventura College — will share their research as part of this event.

Additional support is provided by the Office of Research at Cal Poly.

Light refreshments will be provided.

Stop by anytime between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. to support student research and creative activity at Cal Poly. No RSVP is required.

This event is co-located with a Mini Research Opportunities Fair. The fair is for students interested in getting involved in additional research opportunities on campus. Many of our campus centers and institutes will be present, including the Dairy Products Technology Center, Center for Health Research, Center for Coastal Marine Sciences (CCMS), Grimm Family Center for Organic Production and Research, California Strawberry Center, Kenneth N. Edwards Western Coatings Technology Center, Institute for Advanced Technology and Public Policy, and PolyGAIT — Cal Poly R&D for Global Automated Identification Technologies. In addition, you can find out about more research opportunities and research support through the Office of Student Research, Robert E. Kennedy Library, BEACoN program and National and International Fellowships and Scholarships (NIFS). For our C6 guests, the Transfer Admissions Officer and representatives from the Transfer Center will also be present to discuss processes and supports for transferring to Cal Poly.

We hope to see you there!
