Join the General Engineering Faculty Committee

The General Engineering Program invites faculty members to join the General Engineering Strategy Committee (GESC).

The committee will take on the critical role of implementing key recommendations from the recent program review, shaping the curriculum, assessing equity and accessibility, and setting a strategic direction for general engineering.

Members should anticipate two one-hour meetings each quarter, with some tasks in between, amounting to roughly five hours per quarter.

Given that diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) activities lie at the heart of our college’s mission, they will feature prominently in the committee’s focus. Furthermore, the General Engineering Program serves multiple functions. For instance, it’s a starting point for many undecided students. Notably, 90% of our first-time, first-year (FTFY) general engineering students eventually transition to other majors: mechanical engineering (32%), CS/CPE/EE (18%), IE and MFGE (10%), among others. Therefore, we specially seek representation from these departments. We also welcome anyone interested in interdisciplinary work.

If this mission resonates with you, kindly express your interest by sending a brief email to Liz Thompson at lschleme@calpoly.edu. The first meeting will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 16, in Building 192, Room 237.
