Thank you to everyone who participated in our College Mentoring Quad program last year — we received a lot of positive feedback (thank you to engineering management student Madelyn Cruz for conducting a formal evaluation)! Unlike traditional one-on-one mentoring (where the flow of information may seem one-directional), quads bring together four faculty members to share experiences, ideas and support across the group. Last year, quads met 2–3 times per quarter to socialize; discuss topics like teaching, professional development, and service; and join quarterly College-sponsored workshops.
The biggest challenge was scheduling. This year, the interest form will ask for your general availability (workdays, evenings, weekends) so we can better match members. Quads can also meet in smaller groups of 2–3 if needed.
If you’d like to participate this year (you may stay with your previous quad if you wish), please complete the form. Quads will be formed based on availability, department, role and years at Cal Poly, with the goal of mixing perspectives across the college. We ask for a commitment of 2–3 one-hour meetings per quarter, plus optional activities your quad chooses. Quads will also be encouraged to participate in quarterly College-sponsored workshops.
We’ll form quads throughout September and help schedule your first meeting (suggested on Zoom for introductions, an icebreaker and planning your future meetings).
Please reach out to Bridget Benson if you have any questions.
