The Cal Poly Noyce School of Applied Computing’s 5G Innovation Lab has partnered with Kajeet and AT&T to launch a certified system in Poly Canyon, improving coverage in one of the campus’s most difficult-to-serve areas and opening new opportunities for research and innovation.
Certification was finalized Aug. 5 after Kajeet and Mobilecomm, an AT&T-approved vendor, completed performance testing and 911 service checks with the local Public Safety Answering Point.
“We are excited to announce that AT&T is joining our neutral host network at Poly Canyon, creating a true two-carrier solution in a previously challenging coverage area,” said Jamaal Smith, Kajeet vice president of sales and business development, private wireless networks. “This collaboration will significantly improve connectivity for students, faculty and visitors.”
Neutral host technology strengthens reliability by allowing multiple carriers to operate on the same private wireless system. Unlike Wi-Fi, it supports seamless mobility, so calls and data sessions continue uninterrupted across buildings and outdoor spaces.
Located on the northern edge of Cal Poly’s campus, Poly Canyon serves as a living lab for student projects and research, making it an ideal site to test next-generation wireless infrastructure. With AT&T certification, Cal Poly is among the first universities to deploy a fully verified two-carrier neutral host system.
