12:00PM – 1:00PM: “Authenticity: Why it is important at work, at home, and in our community”
Being authentic can be very difficult – even in college! However, authenticity and vulnerability can also be a source of strength and growth. Join alumnus, John Huân Vu, as he shares his experiences on the diverse intersection as a first-generation, cis male, gay, Christian, Asian-America while leading each of us into a deeper understanding of how we can be authentic at work, at home, and in the community.
2:00PM – 3:00PM: “Technical Interviews: How to Nail It!”
Interviewing is a daunting task. Just imagine how daunting a software engineering technical interview can be! Join alumnus, John Huân Vu, on the tips and tricks to nailing your technical interview and why it is so important to start as a software engineer. Hear about his growth starting as a software engineer, transitioning to program management, and now as a product manager.
About John Huân Vu
John Huân Vu’s motto in life is to find ways to give back his gifts of time, talent, treasure and testimony professionally, personally and spiritually.
John graduated from Cal Poly with a M.S. in Computer Science, B.S. in Computer Science and B.S. in Mathematics. In college, John was involved with Poly Reps, Society of Women Engineers, Newman Catholic Center and Computer Science Fee Allocation Committee.
John is a Product Manager at PayPal, a former engineering program manager for over four years and a former software engineer for over a decade contributing to companies such as Adobe, IBM, Zynga, Amgen and Walt Disney Imagineering. At PayPal, John is also the Global Interfaith Prayer Chair for PayPal’s interfaith employee resource group.
John now resides in San Jose, California, with his husband where they were previously Airbnb Superhosts with over 475 guests from around the world. John is actively involved in the community where he volunteers as a LGBTQ+ Advisory Board Member of the San Jose Police Department and Lay Ministry Leader within the Roman Catholic Diocese of San Jose.
John’s biggest accomplishment in life is being alive and sharing his stories to elevate others.
