Seeking Interested Faculty in LLNL’s Mini-Sabbatical Program

Lawrence Livermore National Lab’s (LLNL) Faculty Mini-Sabbatical Program is designed to bring top academic talent from colleges and universities across the U.S. to the laboratory for one- to three-month visits (faculty are paid $14,500/month) to exchange knowledge and build partnerships. Faculty will be able to experience laboratory resources and capabilities, exchange knowledge and advance their skills. More information about the program can be found here.

In order to be considered for the program, faculty must be sponsored by an LLNL staff scientist/engineer.  If you are interested in this opportunity and do not yet have connections with LLNL (or are perhaps looking for more connections), please contact Bridget Benson, associate dean of scholarship and assessment, at bbenson@calpoly.edu. She will work with LLNL staff to see if a suitable sponsor can be found to match your research interests. In your email, please indicate:

  1. What your specific research areas of interest are
  2. When you are interested in going to LLNL and for how long (note that applications with sponsor approval are due Jan. 15 for summer 2024 and are due in May/June for mini-sabbaticals during the 2024-25 academic year)

Note that LLNL has seven core competencies, so matches are more likely to be found in these areas: High Energy Density Science, Bioscience and Bioengineering, Earth and Atmospheric Science, Advanced Materials and Manufacturing, Lasers and Optical Science &Technology, Nuclear, Chemical and Isotopic Science and Technology, and High Performance Computing, Simulation and Data Science.
