New LAEP Student Research Assistant Employment Program

Cal Poly's College of Engineering ranked No. 8 in the nation, according to U.S. News & World Report.

The Office of Student Research is delighted to share information about the new Learning Aligned Employment Program (LAEP) at Cal Poly.

We are currently recruiting up to 50 on-campus LAEP research assistant supervisors in all disciplines for winter/spring 2024. Supervisors may seek to recruit and select one or more LAEP students. LAEP student research assistant recruitment will occur in January 2024.

To apply for consideration as an LAEP research assistant supervisor for winter/spring 2024, please complete this form by end-of-day on Friday, Dec. 15.

The Learning Aligned Employment Program (LAEP) offers eligible at public colleges and universities in California the opportunity to earn money to help defray their educational costs while gaining education-aligned, career-related employment. LAEP implementation at Cal Poly is a partnership between Financial Aid, Student Payroll Services, Office of Student Research, and Career Services.

One way to think about LAEP is that it is an academic-year state-funded work study program that places eligible students in on-campus research experiences and off-campus internship opportunities in for-profit and non-profit settings. Students are hired as student assistants and charge hours worked in their roles. Students can work up to 20 hours per week, inclusive of all of their Cal Poly employee positions, and up to the amount of their LAEP financial award, which is based on their unmet financial need.

Please email jlehr@calpoly.edu with any questions or set up an appointment here.
