Apply for the Vivien Thomas Scholars Initiative for the Johns Hopkins Ph.D. Program

Cal Poly students are eligible for the Vivien Thomas Scholars Initiative (VTSI) at Johns Hopkins University, which will fully fund all costs for Ph.D. students in STEM.

You can learn about VTSI here.

All students accepted into a Ph.D. program in STEM are welcome to apply, and we are especially looking for students to apply in computer science. Johns Hopkins University performs cutting-edge research in many areas, including information security; language and speech processing; robotics, vision and graphics; computational biology and medicine; machine learning and data intensive computing; systems; and theory and programming languages.

Vivien Thomas scholars will receive up to six years of full tuition support, a stipend, health insurance and other benefits, along with significant mentorship, research, professional development and community-building opportunities.

To be considered for this program, students must submit their Ph.D. application and VTSI supplementary materials by Dec. 1 (an earlier deadline than our computer science Ph.D. program.) All VTSI applicants will receive a waiver of the JHU application program fee. Fee waivers will be granted through the program application portal.

Students interested in computer science are invited to contact admissions@cs.jhu.edu.
