Interested in Co-Advising SHPE?

We are looking for a dedicated faculty member who may be interested in supporting SHPE, the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers, as a Club Co-Advisor. In the past, SHPE has had around 200 members and strong industry connections. Although the club is still going strong, COVID-19 definitely had an impact on the engagement of members. We are looking for a Co-Advisor who can be a mentor for students and support them as they navigate their identity as a Latinx/Hispanic engineering student at Cal Poly. The commitment would include the following:

  • Attend at least one general meeting per quarter
  • Attend at least one officer meeting per quarter
  • Be available to officers and members who may need further support (meeting with students on Academic Probation)
  • Provide guidance to officers who are planning activities for our SHPE Jr. chapters in Santa Maria

Feel free to reach out to Katie Jennings at kmmcguir@calpoly.edu, if you have any questions or are interested in learning more.
