It is our pleasure to share with you an opportunity to apply to participate in a Culturally-Informed Strengths-Based Approach to Advance Early-Career Faculty Success (NSF HRD: #1916056). We are still recruiting participants. You can still access the Early-Career Faculty Application, provide some general information about yourself, and answer these four questions:
- Describe your experiences as an early career faculty from an NSF-AGEP population and how they relate to one or more of your social/cultural identities
- Describe some of the strengths that you see in yourself. How do these strengths relate to your social/cultural identities?
- What specific challenges do you face as an early career STEM faculty member from an NSF-AGEP population?
- How will your participation benefit you as an individual as well as those around you?
For our 2022-23 National Science Foundation (NSF)-funded program, we are recruiting:
- 32 CSU STEM* tenure-track/lecturer early-career faculty
The goal of this program is to enable early-career faculty to bring their authentic selves to their roles as STEM faculty by leveraging their natural talents, and the strengths embedded in their social and cultural identities to successfully navigate their institutional contexts. The intended outcomes of participation include:
- Enhanced teaching experience and effectiveness
- Increased research and grant activity
- Strong, professional networking community
For Early-Career Faculty, we are accepting applications from CSU STEM* tenure-track and full-time lecturers hired Fall 2018 or later from AGEP populations.
**NSF AGEP populations (for the purposes of this project) are defined as STEM faculty who are African Americans, Hispanic Americans, American Indians, Alaska Natives, Native Hawaiians, and Native Pacific Islanders. The NSF advises that participants should be a self-identified member of an AGEP population and a U.S. citizen, permanent resident or national.
*The AGEP definition of STEM includes: STEM Education and Social & Behavioral Sciences (Psychology, Sociology, Economics, etc.)
Faculty who are selected will be supported through workshops about culturally-informed strengths-based strategies for faculty success, coaching from tenured STEM faculty strengths coaches, peer coaching and networking, and grant proposal writing workshops and support. Applications are now being accepted and application review is on a rolling basis
Early-Career Faculty commitment includes the following:
- Kickoff Retreat (August 2-5, 2022)
- 6 Web-based Zoom Workshops (Sept 2022 – May 2023)
