Counseling Service Fall Updates

A few of the services offered at Counseling Services this quarter for first year students and those experiencing marginalization.

ROOTS:

Last year we launched ROOTS (Reclaiming Our Origins Through Self-Exploration: A BIPOC Support Group): a space for BIPOC students to explore their intersecting identities and gain support through shared stories in the current political climate. ROOTS is a support group that will be running Tuesdays at 10:10 AM- 11:40 AM. Students interested may contact Counseling Services for a brief appointment prior to joining the group. For a full list and descriptions of group services offered at Counseling Services, you can visit this page.

First Year Students Drop-In Support:

A space for first year students to find and provide support among peers around common challenges as first year students. With a general focus on the mental health experience of first year students, this drop-in space provides an opportunity to connect with peers and a Counseling Services provider. Mondays at 10AM-11AM (Oct. 4th – Nov. 1st).

Please access the Zoom link at the designated time. https://us02web.zoom.us/j/85681024049

Let’s Talk:

The Let’s Talk series is a free, confidential and informal consultation for Cal Poly Students with a mental health provider. It’s not therapy, but a student can talk about anything on their mind, they can discuss the heaviness of the current moment, and/or seek guidance (e.g., how to help a friend, how to seek services, wanting to learn more about a coping skill, etc.). We are also happy to consult with faculty and staff during this time if they feel concerned about a student.

Let’s Talk: Wednesdays and Thursdays, 2-2:50 PM at URL: https://zoom.us/j/97713861468

Let’s Talk: Anything and Everything is a space specifically for underrepresented and/or marginalized students who want to meet with someone committed to inclusion, cultural humility, and challenging their own bias and privilege. Fridays, 11-11:50 AM at URL: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/86260282673

UndocuTalk is a space for students who are undocumented, from mixed status families, and their allies who want to speak with mental health therapists who work in partnership with the Dream Center.  Tuesdays: October 5th, November 2nd, & November 30th, 2PM-2:50 PM at URL: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/93395246223
