Safer SAAM Social Media Campaign

Due to COVID-19 precautions, Safer is presenting a social media campaign for Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM) instead of in-person events.

The focus of Safer’s campaign is intersectionality which can be described as the ways oppressive and marginalizing institutions such as: racism, classism, ableism, sexism, and many other “isms” are interconnected and cannot be examined separately from one another”. Intersectionality is important for understanding sexual violence because the identities people hold affects the way they experience sexual violence, which is used as a tool of oppression in order to exert power and control over another individual or individuals. To work to end sexual violence is to work to end all forms of oppression.

To stay involved in Safer’s SAAM social media campaign, follow them on Instagram (@calpolysafer) and Facebook (Cal Poly Safer). Each week of Safer’s campaign will highlight a specific community that is often left out of the conversation when discussing sexual violence. There will also be a special giveaway for the top engagers!
