As part of our strategic goal to create a rich culture of diversity and inclusion within the College of Engineering, we would like to assemble a team and draft a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Action Plan. Development of the plan is motivated by our own internal desires, the ASEE Diversity Recognition Program (ADRP), increasing awareness of issues around DEI within ABET Student Outcomes, and importantly, the recent results of the CPx survey.
Last year we formed the CENG Diversity and Inclusion Committee which was subsequently renamed the Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (JEDI) Committee. The JEDI Committee made many recommendations to the Dean’s office and developed a College of Engineering JEDI Statement. The College JEDI statement reads:
The Cal Poly College of Engineering fosters an environment based in love, empathy and respect where all are supported, energized and empowered. Opportunities to contribute exist for all and a broad range of voices and experiences are necessary as we co-create our future. We are developing an inclusive community where everyone can be their own unique selves.
To help realize our strategic goal and ensure the College of Engineering climate reflects our aspirations, we are seeking volunteers to be part of the DEI Action Plan team. If you are interested in working on the DEI Action Plan team, please send an email to Eric Mehiel (emehiel@calpoly.edu).
