A Life Lesson

Mahvish Syed stands apart from her fellow students in a couple of obvious ways.

The biomedical engineering graduate student often studies at the dining room table with her two teenaged sons. And because she wants her American-born sons to know their roots, she decided to wear a hijab – a headscarf worn by Muslim women.

In this video, Syed discusses balancing schoolwork with parenting and her decision to wear the hijab.

Her story will also be featured in the upcoming “Engineering Advantage” alumni magazine.
