CENG Announces Three Competitive Internal Funding Opportunities

The College of Engineering is excited to announce three competitive internal funding opportunities that will support the teacher-scholar model.  You can find out more information about and apply to each opportunity by going to the Cal Poly InfoReady home page and selecting “Engineering” from the drop-down menu in the upper left corner. You will then see the list of these three opportunities.  You are welcome to apply for any or all of the proposals (if eligible).  Please reach out to Bridget Benson, Interim Associate Dean of Assessment and Scholarship, at bbenson@calpoly.edu if you have any questions.

2023 CENG Summer Undergraduate Research Program (SURP)

This annual opportunity is open to all faculty and provides a $1500 faculty stipend, $3500 student stipend and up to $500 for project expenditures to support an eight-week long (20 hours/week) summer 2023 undergraduate research project. Faculty members propose their projects, and the projects selected for funding will be open to student application. The deadline for this opportunity is March 28, 2023.

Lockheed Endowed Professorship

The college is thrilled to announce the return and expansion of the Lockheed Endowed Professorship. This award provides a total of $30,000 in research funding, which can be spent over the period of July 2023 to June 2025.  This award is open to tenured or tenure-line faculty members in all research areas, although preference is given to tenure-track faculty.  We are excited that this opportunity is being expanded from two awards to three awards and the amount increased from historical levels.  The deadline for this opportunity is April 24, 2023.

Return on Indirect Costs (R-IDC)

This award provides support for equipment purchases and/or student researchers for AY 23-24 to support research and scholarly efforts of all faculty, but specifically aimed at developing, conducting and maintaining externally sponsored projects involving students.  Matching funds by department(s) are encouraged, but not required.  A total of up to $50K is available to be spent across all funded proposals.
