Call for Proposals – Change the Status Quo Conference 2022

The Center for Service in Action is hosting the 20th annual Change the Status Quo (CSQ) Social Justice Leadership Conference on Saturday, Feb. 26, 2022. The conference aims to empower students to use the Learn by Doing spirit to challenge social norms, ask critical questions, demand solutions and make lasting social change.  Through inspiring workshops, other guest speakers, and engaging panel discussions, students will gain a newfound sense and understanding of social justice and how they can take ownership of their role to advance social change.

This year’s keynote speaker is writer, abolitionist organizer, and creative educator Hoda Katebi.  Her work has been hailed from the BBC to the New York Times and featured or cited in books, journals, and museums around the world.  She is the founding member of Blue Tin Production, an apparel manufacturing cooperative run by working class women of color setting new international standards in labor and sustainable fashion supply chains.  Her work focuses on de-siloing interconnected systems and building transnational solidarity movements, for which she has been listed 40 under 40 by the National Iranian American Council, Leaders for a New Chicago by Field Foundation, the Pioneer Award from the Chicago Foundation for Women, and listed as Crain’s Chicago Business 20 in their 20s.  Click HERE for more information on Ms. Katebi.

Faculty, staff, students, alumni, community partners & leaders, and elected officials are invited to present on an array of topics during a 30 or 60-min workshop for conference breakout sessions. Workshop sessions will be categorized into themes based on content. Topic themes are listed on the proposal form. A separate program proposal form for each proposed workshop will need to be submitted; the form can be downloaded from the CSQ website (also below). Forms should be submitted by email to serviceinaction@calpoly.edu. They are due by Sunday, Jan. 23, 2022 at 11:59pm. Late proposals will not be accepted.  You will be notified of proposal’s status by Feb. 1 or sooner.
