Faculty Research Roundup

On any given day, the College of Engineering’s diverse and dedicated faculty members produce significant research contributions through peer-reviewed journal articles, scholarly books and book chapters. Learn more about those contributions in this month’s Faculty Research Roundup. If you would like your work to be included in a future faculty roundup, submit your research here

Computer Science and Software Engineering

Javier Gonzalez-Sanchez (computer science)

Assistant Professor Javier Gonzalez-Sanchez and his cohorts recently published their research, “Affect-Driven VR Environment for Increasing Muscle Activity in Assisted Gait Rehabilitation.” The research explores how virtual reality and brain-computer interfaces can enhance rehabilitation for young patients.

Gonzalez-Sanchez collaborated with faculty members and doctoral students from Universidad Panamericana in Mexico to bring this research to fruition.

Electrical Engineering

Taufik (electrical engineering)

Professor Taufik was invited by USAID Indonesia to be a keynote speaker at the International Conference on Sustainable Semiconductor Manufacturing hosted by Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember in Surabaya, Indonesia, in August.

He presented his keynote speech, “Role of Power Electronics in the Semiconductor Fabrication Industry,” which discussed how power electronics will provide the critical role in supplying the challenging energy demand to semiconductor manufacturing equipment while ensuring stability, reliability and efficiency of both the manufacturing equipment and the power grid.

In June, Taufik also delivered a keynote speech at the 13th International Physics Seminar organized and hosted by Universitas Negeri Jakarta, Indonesia, on “Hybrid AC/DC House: Paving a Pathway for Future Sustainable Homes,” discussing the current progress and challenges of his research in improving residential electrical systems to help achieve the future Net Zero Energy Homes.

This summer, Taufik also served as a mentor for international student Rhafi Mahatvayodha from Universitas Indonesia, who worked with Taufik on his research project on hybrid AC/DC electricity for residential homes.

Mechanical Engineering

Mohammad Noori (mechanical engineering)

Emeritus Professor Mohammad Noori and his collaborators have published the following journal articles since June 2024:

In addition, Noori will be serving as a member of the International Scientific Committee of the 24th International Conference on Construction Applications of Virtual Reality to be held in Sydney, Australia, in November. He will be presenting his paper,A Smart and Sustainable Infrastructure Framework for Establishing a Resilient Environment: Strategic Overview.”

Noori also recently co-published the book, “Modeling and Simulation of Intelligent Transportation Systems.”
