Call for Proposals for NASA’s Gateways to Blue Skies Competition

Students gathered in a group at NASA's Blue Skies Competition.

NASA is looking for collegiate teams to conceptualize aviation-related system(s) that can be applied to agriculture by 2035 or sooner with the goal of improving production, efficiency, environmental impact and extreme weather/climate resilience.

Based on a review of proposal and video submissions, up to eight finalist teams will be selected to receive an $8,000 stipend to develop a final technical paper, create an infographic and travel to present at the 2025 Gateways to Blue Skies Competition Forum at NASA’s Armstrong Flight Research Center in Edwards, California, from May 20-21, 2025.

But wait, there’s more! As the competition prize, NASA is offering internship opportunities within its Aeronautics Research Mission Directorate for members of the winning team!

Submissions from ANY and ALL academic levels (i.e., freshman, sophomore, junior, senior and graduate students) and majors are highly encouraged and anticipated from any accredited U.S.-based college or university, including Minority-Serving Institutions.

Submit a non-binding Notice of Intent (NOI) by Oct. 22 here to let us know you’re interested in participating in this year’s Blue Skies Competition and receive program updates from the Blue Skies Team!
