Four electrical engineering students published and presented two papers at the American Society for Engineering Education Pacific Southwest Conference in Las Vegas, Nevada, from April 18-20.

Krishan Ram and Alejandra Zapata presented their paper, “The Green Seaport Power System Project as an Academia-Industry International Partnership,” which is a project that assists in the conversion of a seaport in Indonesia into a green port incorporating renewable energy sources and energy storage.

The project started from the collaboration between the Indonesia’s Ministry of Transportation and electrical engineering Professor Taufik.

Leonard Hernandez and Jacqueline Radding presented their work, “Development of a Laboratory Course in Industrial Power and Control for Electrical Engineers,” which reported on the newly established PLC lab in the Electrical Engineering Department.

Schneider Electric, through their engineer, Darrick Baker, provided generous equipment donations for the lab that aims to enrich the hands-on educational experience in industrial power automation and control for the electrical engineering program.

The lab is a result of a group effort, which started in 2018, involving many students and electrical engineering professors Taufik, Jason Poon and Ali Dehghan-Banadaki.
