Computer science and software engineering Assistant Professor Javier Gonzalez-Sanchez and his colleagues had a project accepted for presentation at the 2025 Academy of Neuroscience for Architecture Conference. In addition, they presented their project, “Engaging architecture: Bridging spatial computing and emotion-AI in sites of cultural heritage,” in La Jolla from Sept. 18-20.

This project was co-led by Jen Shields in Cal Poly’s College of Architecture and Environmental Design.

Assistant professors Irene Humer, Theresa Migler and Javier Gonzalez-Sanchez had their undergraduate research projects accepted as part of the Computing Alliance for Hispanic-Serving Institutions.

Humer’s project, “Bridging scientific computing and quantum algorithms: An educational toolkit for undergraduates,” is designed to give undergraduate students the opportunity to explore the intersection of scientific computing and the rapidly growing field of quantum computing while creating an accessible educational resource for peers.

Migler’s project, “A network approach to understanding equity in air transportation.” will apply tools from network science to study the structure and equity of the airline network.

Gonzalez-Sanchez’s project, “Remote control of collaborative robots,” focuses on undergraduate computer engineering students designing software interfaces that allow an industry-level collaborative robotic arm to be operated remotely.
