Giving Opportunities

This is Doing

In the Cal Poly College of Engineering, our students are transformed by tackling real-world challenges with the curiosity, rigor and hands-on experience that prepare them to lead in a rapidly changing world. Our Learn by Doing education doesn’t just shape graduates, it fuels innovation, drives applied research and delivers solutions that matter beyond campus.

At the heart of our mission is student success. We are opening doors for women and students from historically underserved communities and offering immersive, hands-on learning environments where complex problems are solved through systems-level thinking. With your support, we turn that mission into reality. Investments from alumni, parents and corporate partners strengthen the student experience at every level. Your generosity empowers students to turn ideas into action, classrooms into laboratories and potential into progress. When you give to the Cal Poly College of Engineering, you are investing in people who will change the world, one solution at a time.

College of Engineering Hangar

Constructed in 1947 to serve Cal Poly’s aerodynamics program, this iconic structure was transformed in 1985 to become the multidisciplinary project shop it is today. By bridging classroom learning with industry-standard projects, hands-on club projects and experiential learning opportunities, the hangar prepares graduates with experiences many don’t gain until they start their first job.

Earn by Doing

Our Earn by Doing program immerses students, like our shop techs, in real-world, work-based engineering opportunities that build technical expertise, critical thinking and leadership. By complementing rigorous academics, the Earn by Doing program equips graduates with workplace-ready skills, fosters innovation and offers a financial earning opportunity that is critical when studying at Cal Poly.

Applied Research (Summer Undergraduate Research Program)

The College of Engineering offers robust applied research opportunities, such as the Summer Undergraduate Research Program, that engage students and faculty in solving real-world problems alongside faculty researchers. These experiences deepen technical knowledge, spark innovation and translate theory into practice.

Student Clubs: Co-Curricular Activities

Our College of Engineering club activities, both institutionally recognized and supported, play a vital role in student development by fostering community, leadership and peer-driven learning outside the classroom. With more than 92 clubs, students find hands-on project experience, professional networking and opportunities to compete and collaborate on real engineering challenges. Through inclusive engagement and student leadership, club activities enrich campus culture, strengthen career readiness and build lifelong connections that extend into students’ professional and personal lives.
