2025 ASCE Civil Engineering Student Championships at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo

The team won that race and earned the R. John Craig Memorial Award, which honors the teamwork and dedication of the New Jersey Institute of Technology professor who spent several years promoting the National Concrete Canoe Competition but died just months before the first event was held in 1988.

California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, is proud to host the 2025 ASCE Civil Engineering Student Championships.

Civil engineering students will be coming from around the country to showcase their projects and compete from June 27-29 (check-in day is June 26).

What are the ASCE Championships

The ASCE Championships, previously known as the National Concrete Canoe Competition, now includes 4 competitions: Concrete Canoe, Sustainable Solutions (sustainable infrastructure project), UESI Surveying (field surveying and topographic mapping project) and Timber-Strong Design Build (light frame timber structure design/build project).

Field Trips

  • Diablo Canyon Power Plant:

There will be 3 busses leaving from Cal Poly H-16 Parking lot at 8 AM on June 28 to do a tour of Diablo Canyon Power Plant. If you wish to attend this field trip, you will be required to complete a waiver which we will send you a link for.

  • New Housing Development Project:

There will be a guided tour of the New Housing Development Project being build on campus in the K-1 Lot at 8:30 AM on June 27. If you wish to attend please indicate on the sign-up form and we will send you a waiver. 

Volunteering

To put on an event of this magnitude we need as many volunteers as we can! If you are willing to or are interested please sign up to attend and help put on the event! Shifts only run for 4 hours and tasks mostly include setting up events (tables, chairs etc), directing visitors to locations and events, transportation of event materials and event operations.
