MESA Day Preliminaries: Event Advisory

The Cal Poly Multicultural Engineering Program (MEP) will host local preliminaries for Math, Engineering, Science Achievement (MESA) Day, a statewide competition in which middle and high school students participate in several math, science and engineering-related activities to see who scores the highest.

Who: Mathematics Engineering Science Achievement (MESA)

What:  Approximately 250 students from Santa Maria, Guadalupe, Shandon and Paso Robles will converge on Cal Poly to build bridges, drop eggs, solve math problems and present their scientific findings. Those with the highest scores will move on to the regional competition to be held at UC Santa Barbara.

When: March 1, 2008, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
  
Where: Cal Poly campus

Why: The MESA program works specifically with students from underprivileged communities and those who are first generation college students, teaching them to work together and to understand the value of competition in the real world.
