Fourth Grade Days: Event Advisory

Each year during National Engineers Week, Cal Poly's Society of Women Engineers organizes visits to local fourth grade classrooms by engineering student volunteers to teach students about the field of engineering and lead them in hands-on science demonstrations. By reaching out, SWE members hope to get young students interested in math, science and all things related to engineering.

Why: "Our mission is to open the doors of the profession to young people, especially girls, who remain underrepresented," said Helene Finger, director of the Women's Engineering Program. “Cal Poly has always been there for me.

The students and faculty in my department were very close to one another and I felt nurtured professionally and personally. I'm still in touch with professors, and I'm still involved with the college because it's where I received the foundation for my career.
