College Based Fee Increase Proposal

Overview

On March 11-12, 2009, Cal Poly students will have the opportunity to submit an advisory vote on a proposal to increase the college based fee to $362 per quarter for all full-time students ($181 per quarter for part-time students) effective Fall 2009. The fee would be increased by an additional $100 per quarter for all full-time students ($50 per quarter for part-time students) effective Fall 2010 and another $100 per quarter for all full-time students ($50 per quarter for part-time students) effective Fall 2011. The $362 college based fee amount includes the annual adjustment based on the Higher Education Price Index.

Key points of the proposal include the following:

  • The fee increase has been requested by Dean Mohammad Noori, along with the other Cal Poly College Deans. It is endorsed by the College of Engineering Department Chairs Council and Jessica Paz, Chair of the Engineering Student Council.

  • The increase in the academic program fee shall be used to provide support for instruction, in particular, the hiring of instructional faculty to ensure student success and meet student need for courses.

  • Fee revenues will go directly to the department/program of the student paying the fee.

  • Open, standing, student-elected and student-chaired committees in each department/program will oversee allocation of the fee revenues.

Cal Poly was perfect for me because I was interested in both engineering and business. I'm a software engineering major with a business minor.
