Tuition Waivers, Graduate Fellowships and Scholarships

Non-Resident Tuition Waivers

Cal Poly provides a limited number of non-resident tuition waivers. Note that waivers are NOT automatically awarded to students receiving teaching or research assistantships. For information on tuition waivers, look under "Financial Aid" at the Graduate Programs web site.

Fellowships and Scholarships

Cal Poly and the College of Engineering offer graduate fellowships and many scholarships for which both current and prospective graduate students may apply. Applications are usually made on-line between mid-December and the beginning of March. An extensive directory of available awards and application instructions are available at the Financial Aid web site. The award listing is alphabetical so you must scan through the Engineering and General sections of the directory to find the particular awards for which you may be eligible.

In addition, the College administers a special Bonderson Fellowship program that provides five years of support for a student pursuing a joint MS/PhD degree program at Cal Poly and UC Santa Barbara.

The Graduate Programs web site, under "Financial Aid," lists two fellowship opportunities targeted to under-represented groups (Graduate Equity Fellowship and the California Pre-Doctoral Program) along with a link to NSF Graduate Research Fellowship opportunities.

Cal Poly's international education website has specific information about scholarships for international students.

Additional information may be found on the Cal Poly Financial Aid website.

Striving for an energy independent future has big political benefits and developing sources of sustainable energy has huge environmental benefits. Cal Poly's College of Engineering was the perfect place to study alternative energy development.
