Administrative Requirements

Filing the necessary administrative forms in a timely manner will ensure that all degree requirements are properly satisfied in ample time prior to your intended graduation. Most required forms and related information are available for downloading from the Graduate Programs website.

Post-Baccalaureate Change of Objective (BS+MS programs only) After completing 186 units toward BS but before completing 210 units, and at least 2 quarters before completing MS requirements. Graduate Coordinator (proposed MS program)
Formal Study Plan (MS students) Before completing 12 units toward MS; (BS+MS students) file with Change of Objective form Your Graduate Advisor, then Graduate Coordinator
Amendment to Formal Study Plan As needed (to modify any part of previously filed study plan) Your Graduate Advisor, then Graduate Coordinator
Petition for Special Consideration As needed (used to request an exception from rules and published degree requirements) Your Graduate Advisor, then Graduate Coordinator
Advancement to Candidacy Two quarters before graduation and after fulfilling graduate writing requirement and any admission conditions Your Graduate Advisor, then Graduate Coordinator

Thesis/Project Committee Membership If doing a thesis/project, at least one quarter before graduation Graduate Coordinator

Forms filed with your Graduate Coordinator are forwarded for additional signatures, in most cases the Associate Dean of Engineering for Research & Graduate Studies (13-266) and the Dean of Research & Graduate Programs (38-154). Students may choose to hand-carry the forms to expedite acquisition of these additional signature.

Note that a minimum B (3.0) average must be maintained in all coursework included in the formal study plan.
