Admission Requirements to MS Engineering with Specializations in Biochemical Engineering, for International Applicants

Note that an international applicant is anyone who would attend Cal Poly while in the U.S. under a non-immigrant visa.

The deadline for completing your application appears below. All parts of your application must have arrived at Cal Poly by the date shown. Note that you are strongly encouraged to submit your materials well before this nominal deadline.

Your completed application must include the following:

  1. A formal application made through CSU Mentor (on-line or using a downloaded application form)
  2. Official transcripts from ALL colleges previously attended (except Cal Poly), mailed to: Cal Poly, Admissions Office, San Luis Obispo, CA 93407
  3. Scores from the General Test of the Graduate Record Exam (GRE), sent directly to Cal Poly using institution code 4038. Current or recently graduate Cal Poly students may contact the Graduate Coordinator to request that this requirement be waived.
  4. Three letters of recommendation from faculty members on institutional letterhead, addressed to: Graduate Coordinator - Biochemical MS Program, Civil and Environmental Engineering Dept., Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, CA 93407. Letters from professional supervisors or mentors may also be accepted with prior agreement. The program does not use a standard recommendation form.
  5. Results of the TOEFL test taken within the past two years directed to institution code 4038. Go to Cal Poly's TOEFL website for additional TOEFL instructions.

The program does not require the GRE test although it is recommended. You are encouraged to include GRE scores in your file by mailing to: Graduate Coordinator - Biochemical MS Program, Civil and Environmental Engineering Dept., Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, CA 93407. Scores may also be sent directly to Cal Poly using institution code 4038.

“My path to Cal Poly is a little longer than most.

I was born in Nigeria and went to high school in Bakersfield. I've always been interested in solid state and polymer electronics, so when my engineering club at Bakersfield College announced a field trip to Cal Poly, I was definitely excited.
