Applying to Post-Baccalaureate Programs

Applications to post-baccalaureate engineering graduate programs at Cal Poly are made through the Campus Admissions Office. That web site provides extensive information to help you apply either on-line or through a downloaded paper application. Official transcripts for all prior college-level work and test scores (GRE and TOEFL, if required) should be directed to the Cal Poly Admissions Office, San Luis Obispo CA 93407 (but only after your formal application is filed). Letters of recommendation, if required, should be sent to the Graduate Coordinator of your intended program.

The basic requirements for admission to post-baccalaureate engineering MS programs are:

  • An earned bachelor's degree appropriate for the intended MS degree. See the individual program descriptions and the General Catalog for specific requirements.
  • A minimum grade point average of 3.0 in the last 90 quarter units (60 semester units) of coursework. Note that this is higher than the campus minimum GPA of 2.5. On occasion, where other credentials are unusually strong, GPA's in the 2.5-3.0 range may be accepted.

Other requirements vary by program and may include GRE or GMAT scores, letters of recommendation, and samples of previous work. Sometimes graduate coordinators are able to waive certain requirements in special circumstances. “Cal Poly has always been there for me.

The students and faculty in my department were very close to one another and I felt nurtured professionally and personally. I'm still in touch with professors, and I'm still involved with the college because it's where I received the foundation for my career.
